In 2020, Stedin (one of the three large gas network operators in the Netherlands) replaced a DN80 gas pressure regulator which was in need of replacement with our new RS350S gas pressure regulator with a valve diameter of 37.5 mm. The Gas Pressure Regulating Station (GPRS) where this happened is in a residential area. Now that it has become colder in the Netherlands in winter and therefore more gas is being used, some residents had complained about flowing noise from this GPRS.
Stedin has therefore decided to install a silencer in the RS350S controller in this GPRS. This operation was performed on 15 January 2021 and Wigersma & Sikkema were present to take advantage of the opportunity to perform noise measurements.
Wigersma & Sikkema carried out various noise measurements inside and outside the GPRS.
Before installation of the silencer, the noise level averaged 84 dB (measured at 1 metre from the GPRS with the door open). After installation of the silencer, the same measurements showed an average noise level of 73.5 dB. The installation of the silencer at this gas pressure regulating station therefore resulted in a reduction of the noise level by approximately 10 dB.
The silencer is easy to install. It takes about 10 minutes to install it. The KG value only decreases by approx. 3.5 % due to the installation of the silencer.
